crabgrassCrabgrass—the bane of so many yards and homeowners who are seeking the perfect lawn. Crabgrass is something we are almost all familiar with, but just how to get rid of it or keep it from growing in the first place may be more of a mystery. Here are a few things you need to know about crabgrass and how to prevent it or stop it from spreading.

First, crabgrass in an annual plant, and sprouts in the spring. It comes from seeds that were dropped the previous summer or fall. By using our lawn spraying services at the proper time, we can kill off the crabgrass already in your yard and prevent it from seeding. This prevents it from growing again the following year.

A few other things to keep in mind to prevent crabgrass from growing:

  • Cut your grass high. Crabgrass loves sunlight, and so if you have your lawn cut too low and keep it low, that allows the crabgrass to better flourish. A thicker, higher cut grass will provide more shadow and make it harder for crabgrass to grow.
  • Keep your lawn thick and well aerated. A healthy and thick lawn also give less room for the crabgrass to take root and thrive. Water your lawn before crabgrass season to keep your lawn healthy and thriving. If your lawn is already thick and healthy, the crabgrass will have a harder time growing in the lawn.

These are just a few tips to help you get ahead of crabgrass in your yard.  For further questions, or to use our lawn spraying services to help stop a crabgrass problem in your yard, call us at The Other Side Lawn and Ornamental Pest Control Inc. We look forward to hearing from you!
